The person who built the algorithm
I built April. April writes your report, not me.
Every constant, every deduction method, every algorithm in April is mine. Your reading is not. I do not read your answers, I do not write your report and I do not approve it. April decodes you, writes it, verifies its own working, and sends it.
In 2019 I started an artificial intelligence company. I was an artist, and that turned out to be the problem. People laughed. Not unkindly, most of them — they simply could not hold the two ideas at the same time. A painter, and a technology founder. So they kept the one they already believed and let the other one go.
It failed. Every pound I had saved went into it and none of it came back. The company shut. The team left. There is a particular silence that arrives after that, and I would not wish it on anybody.
I met Fin in Kerala, in the south of India, not long after. There was no business reason for it. We started talking and did not stop for hours. He had met me at the worst point of my life, with nothing to show and no company left to show it in, and he believed me anyway.
That is why April exists. The rest I taught myself — the machine learning, the mathematics, the code, the design — mostly alone and mostly badly at first. The one thing I could not give myself was somebody's faith at the point where my own had run out. Fin gave me that, and he has not taken it back since.
So April is not a product I thought up. It is the thing I could not stop building.
Blackhand is the other half of the answer. I do not want anyone with a real idea to lose what I lost, for the reasons I lost it — because they did not look the part, because nobody in the room could read them properly, because the people judging them were judging the wrong layer. April reads the layer underneath. That is its whole purpose.
I am building a better tomorrow where nobody leaves empty-handed. That is not a slogan. It is a debt.
